As previously posted the Arisaig Community Trust is working to establish an aire just outside our village. To part fund the purchase of the land and construct the aire we are looking into establishing a community share company. This post is solely to solicit interest from potential investors. Unless we can find a way to raise in excess of £50,000 from private investors the project will not go ahead. We have received quite a few responses saying that an amenity block is unnecessary and understand that, from a motorhome users point of view. However, we are taking a broader view and the area has insufficient provision of public toilets and we are also hoping to attract at least a few of the many camper van users who also visit the area. The amenity block will be built last, if funds permit, and is not an essential part of the basic aire. We estimate we can purchase the land and construct the necessary access road and ten hard standings for about £100k. However, to add the much needed black water disposal and provide a fresh water supply will cost at least another £50k so to get to what we consider to be a minimum standard to help address the problems we are experiencing in the area we need at least £150k. We are waiting for a decision (end of March) on a grant application for £100k and it will greatly strengthen our case if we can evidence the ability to raise at least a further £50k by public subscription, hence this post. If you are in a position to subscribe a minimum of £50 then please read the attachment and register your interest. Its important to note that you will have the right to sell your shares back to the company in due course, subject to the terms and conditions of the offer.

The Highland Council Coastal Communities Fund grant committee considered the Arisaig Community Trust's grant application yesterday, 23rd March. Unfortunately the application was not successful. The fund was heavily over subscribed and projects which are closer to "shovel ready" were given precedence. Nevertheless Highland Council are supportive of our project and the door remains open for a further bid later this year. In the meantime we will progress planning and land ownership issues, which are proving particularly difficult. As a result of this decision we are putting the flotation of a community share company on hold. Whilst it's too early to say with any certainty it may be that we can have something open by spring next year. Morning Steve, thanks for the update.
Is it possible to set up a temporary overnight parking or waste point without all planned development?
Even if its allowing use of an existing manhole o empty waste?
Unfortunately motorcaravans will still be touring and parking up somewhere.
If you want to set up a crowd funding scheme for basic facilities our members have shown a willingness to donate to help communities fund basic facilities.
