Re: Reply to BBC News report
Ok, a copy of Staycation Emergency Recovery Plan has gone to the BBC with the following message.
Dear Sirs
I refer to the news item below.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-5 ... WQhHNt__48
I believe you will have already received emails telling you of CAMPRAs Campaign for Real Aires advocating the provision of overnight parking and service facilities for Motor caravans in the UK such as European Countries have enjoyed for many years. For ease of reference I attach a copy of the text of our previous email.
But we need to go further, not just to explain what has been going wrong the British Staycation and explaining our long term agenda, and what is not being done; but to actually propose what we believe should be done, urgently and in the immediate future, to head off a repeat of last years mayhem. As the brakes come off Britain will go on holiday whether we want it or not. We can manage it or suffer it. Lets turn the Staycation into a proper holiday free of the stress, conflict and misery of last year where too many visitors in motor caravans, caravans and tents encountered an inadequate infrastructure and knee jerk reactions from authorities that simply made things worse.
With that in mind please read the second attachment where we outline some relatively inexpensive short term measures that can feasibly be put in place if only local authorities have the will to remove heads from the sand and take some POSITIVE action, and the support and encouragement from Government to help them implement them.
Regards

Another report on BBC some of the terms used sound familiar
There was a substantial piece on BBC Breakfast News just after 8:30 am this morning (complete with a caravan pitched up outside BBC London) reporting Vist Britain’s recent findings that there’ll be a massive staycation boom this year. Within this piece, it emphasised the surge in leisure vehicle purchases & that UK campsites are already booked to capacity. The period examined was July to September. Useful extra publicity for our campaign cause!

Very good reply. I read the number of 13.00 aires on the continent
Of course you all know about www.campercontact.com, the Dutch list of aires. 35.000 aires (and campsites with special aires for MH's) in 58 different countries. Last month the number of aires inreased with 377. Maybe worth to point local governments at this number. In Holland we first had many problems with the overhead organisation of campsites who where against aires. Now even more campsites provide special aires and many private investors set up aires.
It changed a lot since I started Motorhoming 25 yrs ago.
