Photos of possible locations

Post by Steve »

Please post a photo and details of potential sites for an Aire or waste point in your location with who owns the land if known, we will direct councils and tourism bodies to this page.
If you are able to make contact please put the brief details: contact name and details, date contacted, method of contact.
These could be disused car parks, closed businesses like car sales plots, public toilets, clubs etc or car parks empty at night.
Use your imagination but consider access for larger vehicles and away from residential areas.

The attached pics are of the unused DLI car park at the rear of county hall Durham city, slightly sloping but usable with levelling blocks, it’s 10 mins walking in to the city centre, and 20 mins upto the Cathedral. The barrier has already got power so it would not take much to change it to card payment, £10 a night without services with room for 30+ vans would raise much needed cash, CAMHC have a site on the outskirts of the city but it’s not user friendly you have to cross 3 busy road junctions off a motorway just to get to a bus Stop if you are walking. You cannot stop overnight in the 3 park and rides around the city either. County Hall is up for sale as they are moving to new premises at the end of the year, but this would help with staycation parking this year as we know there will be a problem every where this year.

This is a pay by donation site, ideal spaces at rear of car park for motorcaravan Aire.
Barrier closed at night.

This is Bedlington in Northumberland. There are more car parks along this road which serve nearby shops and the Front Street. Although well used there is always plenty of space. Ideal place for an Aire if the local council could install a service point. I have written before but will write to them again.

Hi Eddie,
I believe that this area in Bedlington is now under construction works. I will double check on this next week when passing location on way to work.

Best regards

Malcolm
