Interesting response from the council leader

Stephen

Thank you for your email and your interesting ideas and proposals. I have asked the officers to come back to me with a briefing which will include information on how many private operators we have in Wiltshire and whether it would affect them.

Yes again why are campsites been given special consideration?
Do they do this with any other business?
Maybe reply with below document and politely ask why permission for a potential new business would be dependent on an existing business?
Do Aires take business from Campsites v3.pdf

Have responded about this. Cheers

Dear Mr Whitehead
Just a further thought on your response. I assume when you talk about 'private operators' you mean campsites. Surely a potential new business shouldn't be held back by existing businesses? We are hoping to add to the resources on offer not remove anyone else. I may have misunderstood but surely the council should not be protecting the status quo?
Thanks again

Dear Stephen

I understand your comments but if we were already at or near capacity and to open more would damage businesses many of whom have already suffered over the last 12 months I would be concerned about that. What I am doing is checking that is not the case and not to do so is to take action without evidential data which is illogical.

Positive response here. I've responded with offers of support, zoom meetings etc.

Hi Stephen

I have shared this on my FB page and encouraged my colleagues to do the same.

I have also asked that it is considered as an option when we revisit our council car parking strategy.

Hope this helps in some small way.
