Success with First Sleep Out to Help out in North Yorkshire

Post by Traceybarkwill »

A huge "Well done" and " thank you" to Abbie Silivistris of 'Motorhomes and Campervans against Litter' on the fantastic Sleep Out to Help Out that she organised in the village of Staithes in North Yorkshire.

She liaised with a local cafe owner who, in turn, liaised with the land owner and the local pub and we were allowed to overnight on a small field near the cafe.

We lunched and breakfasted at the cafe and had 2 course meals delivered, by pub staff, direct to our motorhomes. The cafe kindly allowed us to eat in their shelters as long as we distanced and sanitised afterwards.

Participants took walks into the village and spend money on the way there and in the village.

Abbie carried out a litter pick.

The food was outstanding, the site beautiful and the company excellent ( socially distanced outside of course).

We spent a total of £683 between 9 units over the course of 24 hours.

The cafe owners, land owner and pub manager were all happy with the event and are considering installing CDPs and getting 5 van exemptions from the MCC and MHF.

Motorhomers also ensured that whenever they shopped, they promoted our cause with locals.

If you haven't already, please consider joining Abbie's FB group 'Motorhomes and Campervans against Litter'. She is doing a fantastic job of challenging public perceptions of Motorcaravanners.

There are a further 5 SOTHOS planned over the rest of May so look out for them in your region or on the FB page. You will need to PM the organiser as exact locations are only disclosed to confirmed participants until after the event.
