Help wanted to organise a SOTHO event - Lancashire

Post by Madwitch »

Anybody in Lancashire who would be able to organise a Sleep Out To Help Out event - one night only? We've had contact with ITV who are wanting to do an article on motorhomes and are interested in our SOTHO events. However needs to be in the North West. I'm happy to do the TV bit, but need someone local to organise an event so they can see what we're about. The idea is that they would see us in action (possibly litter picking) during the daytime and they are also going to look at an aire, and a council or area who won't allow motorhomes. If you know somewhere that used to allow us but now don't, that would be helpful too. I'm guessing this will happen some time in early June so if anyone has any ideas or can organise a SOTHO (with help, of course!) please message me.

And Abbie will appeal for members of her group to help I'm sure. Maybe she can put out an appeal too if you don't get any offers

Hi Tracey
Sorry I’m relatively new to the forum and I don’t really know what this would involve.
Could you point me in the right direction please?

Hi. All it involves is finding a suitable venue for a one night stopover for up to 8 motorhomes. Ideally it should be somewhere where they haven't previously thought of having us stay over, such as a garden centre or sports club - but preferably somewhere with shops, a pub, cafe or restaurant close by so we can spend some money! Liaise with the owner to find a suitable date and once agreed, we'll put it on the events section of the FB page but giving very scant details, eg area and date for people to decide if they want to participate. Once you have 7 or 8 people committed, then set up a Whatsapp group just for those people and reveal the venue. The idea is that it will be some time in June and we will invite Tim Scott from ITV who is wanting to do a programme about motorhomes and where we can stay. I'll be there to deal with that bit though! If you fancy having a go, see if you can find a venue and then we'll help all we can.

Ok I’m happy to give it a go. It will probably be in the Ribble Valley as that’s where I live.
I’m talking to the Tourism manager at the council so I’ll see if he wants to get involved.
I’ll let you know how I get on.

Does it need to be a weekend or is mid week ok?
I’m looking at the livestock auctions but some have cattle sales on Saturday

We prefer mid week as it shows that we tour all week and all year and not so busy.

Just an update to let you know I've been working on this but so far no luck.

I've a few more things to follow up this week so I've not given up!
