Good morning, on a visit to your Derby store last week I realised that there was an opportunity for Go Outdoors to support the growing 389,000 plus UK registered motorcaravans and attracting them to visit your stores nationwide.
Throughout mainland Europe there is a network of waste emptying points and motorcaravan overnight parking known as an Aire, often in supermarkets.
The UK are only just starting to realise the potential revenue estimated at over £1 billion per year spent in local businesses by our touring motorcaravans.
Brexit and staycations have highlighted the lack of facilities in the UK.
So how can this benefit Go Outdoors ?
1) A modern motorcaravan is a self contained unit that only needs to top up with water and enpty waste tanks every few days, by adding a simple motorcaravan waste point (with a small charge to use if required), you will be supporting your customers and helping the environment by providing a place to dispose of waste and attract touring motorcaravans who will divert to visit the waste point and your stores.
2) By allowing motorcaravans to park overnight (no external equipment and no camping, these are not campsites) you will attract motorcaravans who will use your store. You could charge and issue a voucher for use in the store.
82% of UK Motorcaravans tour year round so this a year round activity and very much in the news at the moment so being the first UK chain to provide these facilities would provide excellent publicity.
Motorcaravan facilities are listed on many social media sites like Searchforsites with over 184,000 members.
We would welcome an opportunity to discuss this and offer our assistance, we are a group of volunteers who started last year with a Facebook group that has grown to 25,000 members in 12 months. We have support of motorcaravan groups with over 600,000 members.
We are working with a government All Party Political Group as Stakeholders, the British Parking Association, several councils and tourism bodies and our website is recognised as the leading source of free information on Aires in the UK.
