It is a Community meeting place where we excercise, cycle, socialise, and children have a play park on their doorstep. Occasionally a Forestry School. So much wildlife too but of course no profit in that ?! There are many visitors every day. Motorhomes have more than enough facilities with Campsites at Reraig, Auchtertyre, Ardelve, Kintail, Shiel Bridge, Ashaig and Broadford...all within a ten mile radius of Balmacara and are hardly ever full to capacity in the Season. Except they choose NOT to use a site but freeload by using Kyle slipway also at Kyleakin, and every other layby in the area, even at Graveyards, disrespecting locals. Motorhomes bring nothing to the area, clog up our roads with their poor driving ability, they spend little in local shops and sadly many leave trash for others to clear, or worse empty their "mess", where they should not. I speak for many residents to this area in regard to Negative attitudes towards Motorhomes.
It should be noted that the exit from the "disused" campsite on to the very busy main road, the A87 is a notorious accident blackspot. There is also a very real threat from Fire with so many trees and leaf litter, especially since many who camp do not apply common sense these days. We have already this year removed portable BBQ's left from free campers which have been discarded and left smouldering. As for the new proposals, for the main benefit of an absentee entrepreneur landowner who already owns a site two miles away, amount to far less for the Community. I do assure you MANY locals to Balmacara and further afield are very angry about being hoodwinked !

FYI....you need to update your info, the site proposals include provision for 16 MoHo's with electric hookup plus 25 pitches for tents, and more for caravans. A portable showerblock sufficient for 50 pitches, and much more beside ! Clearly you are misinformed and not in posession of the full facts like so many !

The post that you are responding to is from 2021.
Whilst this group is for members campaigning for safe, authorised overnight stops who do not want or need a campsite, we welcome construct comments from communities.
From your comments in complaining about motorcaravans parking in laybys etc is in fact supporting the aims of CAMpRA.

The UK is the only country in Europe that does not welcome or provide basic overnight parking for touring motorcaravans, hence parking in laybys.

Thank you for your input but could you please keep it civil and factual.
