I refer to the enquiry concerning motorhome parking, and have checked the licensing and planning provisions. The relevant Act is the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960 and a motorhome falls within the definition of ‘caravan.’ There is a general requirement to licence such sites, and this would include overnight parking of motorhomes. There is an exemption in that local authorities don’t need a licence for local authority land, but would require to comply with all relevant conditions that would be applied to a licence if one were required. The requirement for Planning would depend on the area concerned and the use proposed. We have no plans at present to promote a scheme such as the one described, but we shall refer this to the Lanarkshire Tourism Partnership who will consider the proposal in line with the tourism strategy and other similar proposals.

I will follow this up with an email to The Lanarkshire Tourism Partnership.

Last time I passed Summerlee it was closed but that was about a month ago. I will make an effort to try and visit in the next few days. I always try to make contact with an actual person as I find this gets more results.
