Spotlight on Frugaldom  Motorhome Stopover Aire

Kirkcowan, Newton Stewart

About the Aire

Frugaldom is an off-grid land project set within approximately 5 hectares of land, where Susan and Harvey are planting new woodlands, orchards and herb gardens while creating new wildlife habitats. Within the site they have a small sanctuary for ponies (who enjoy a pampering session) and goats, plus a holiday hut.

Thanks initially to a forward thinking scheme Dumfries & Galloway, and then with support and advice from CAMpRA to develop further, Frugaldom welcomes campervaners and motorhomers into their yard for stopovers or short breaks, on a donations payment basis. There are numerous environmental art installations, wildlife feeding stations and space to sit out and relax, surrounded by nature. Facilities-wise, there is rain harvested water (not for drinking), grey water soakaway and toilet waste disposal point (with a nominal charge to cover waste removal).

Whilst staying in the peaceful surroundings, there are plenty of opportunities for walking, exploring, birdwatching, pony trekking & fishing nearby. It is also within a beautiful dark skies area, so fantastic for any stargazers.  You can get involved with volunteering projects taking place at the site, including planting indigenous trees to re-wild the area, willow coppicing, establishing herb gardens, creating more eco-art or perhaps helping out by taking the two character-filled resident goats, Vincent Van Goat and Goatis Redding for a walk.

You can follow Frugaldom and the antics of their ponies on Facebook, Instagram and their website www.frugaldom.com and if you are planning to visit please check their donation items wish list, in case you have anything lying around unused that would be really useful to this wonderful project.
