Spotlight on Glenbuchty Motorhome Stopover Aire
Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire
About the Aire
In July 2020 when owners Cecilia and Greg first arrived at their new home, their dream cottage by the sea, they couldn’t get inside. They had bought the old stone cottage unseen in an online auction during lockdown, packed their sentimental belongings into their ancient 7.5 tonnes campervan ‘Vanessa’ and travelled the 600+ miles from Bournemouth, arriving too late to collect the keys. So they stayed the night in Vanessa in the cottage’s large front yard, which with its hardstanding, sea views and easy access from the road was like having their own private motorhome stopover. Thus the idea for Glenbuchty Stopover Aire was conceived, however it wasn’t until a conversation with one of the CAMpRA leadership team that they realised this was actually a possibility, and thanks to the advice and support they received they welcomed their first guests late last summer.
Glenbuchty Stopover Aire is located on the North East 250 route and the Moray Coastal and Aberdeenshire Castle Trails. Nearby Fraserburgh is home to the Scottish Lighthouse Museum and a busy working harbour, has a good range of local shops, cafes and restaurants and a stunning sandy beach which is both dog friendly and great for surfing.
With their own little piece of headland where you can sit overlooking the Moray Firth, stays at Glenbuchty are perfect in the winter for catching the Northern Lights when conditions are right, and in the summer for watching the visiting seal colony, marine birds and wildlife. There’s also a seating area inside the walls of the garden to sit and relax on the (very) long summer evenings.
Services
The Aire offers both overnight stays and a service point if you’re passing and need to dispose of black waste (no chemicals) and fill up with water.
